A Bit About Carrie
Born and raised in Canada, Carrie fell in love with the stage as a young girl first appearing in Annie. She toured the Canadian Fringe circuit with a collaborative group before heading to NYC. Along with acting in several theatre and film roles following my training at The American Musical & Dramatic Academy, Carrie co-wrote and performed in RANDOM around the New York Comedy Club circuit. They produced, co-wrote & performed in an off-Broadway sitcom showcase for MTV.
In LA, while acting in various film, TV, and commercial projects, Carrie DJ'd for the Hollywood radio station ARN.
She writes and performs poetry, has written a screenplay, and is working on developing a series.
No matter who Carrie met or where went in Hollywood, the stage has always been her favorite place to perform. Some of her favorite roles on stage have been as Eve in Arthur Miller's CREATION OF THE WORLD & OTHER BUSINESS, Anya in Checkov's THE CHERRY ORCHARD, Kate in THE MIRACLE WORKER, and Gabriella in BOEING BOEING.
Since moving to the Sarasota area, Carri has performed as various leads in the local theaters, and starred in the one-woman show BLOWN SIDEWAYS THROUGH LIFE, Backstage at The Players Centre For Performing Arts. Prior to the pandemic, she worked most regularly under the direction of her local mentor, Elliott Raines on the Two Chairs productions of A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE on the main stage at The Players, and as Juror #8 in the Backstage Theatre's production of 12 ANGRY JURORS, at The Players Centre For Performing Arts.
Carrie became a brand ambassador for Rebel Robinson Photography in 2020, and in early 2021 she joined the Theatre Odyssey's board of directors. Theatre Odyssey gave her the opportunity to direct two and act in one of the radio plays for their 2021 Ten Minute Student Play Festival.
Carrie created ACTING DISTANT early on in the Covid-19 Pandemic when the world seemed to have shut down. She wanted to create a network for actors, directors, and writers - a virtual playground for readings, writing & workshops. With ACTING DISTANT Carrie produced 46 play readings with 32 different scripts and a YouTube Showcase with well over 100 participants in just over a year.
Recently Carrie was invited by Meta (Facebook & Instagram) to produce reels for their platform as a Digital Creator. Find Here.
Then The Yoga Returned
As a student of Yoga for well over two decades, late in 2021 Carrie decided to take the plunge & deepen her practice by training to be a registered Yoga teacherThis was by far her best decision of 2021, Yoga has took Carrie into 2022 with a perspective that can never be shaken..
Having taken her first Yoga classes in theatre school, the passion for the 5000 year old practice began quickly after her first class and increased every class following. Likening it to Alexander Technique, a class for actors that increases body awareness on (and off) stage. Yet the yoga went even deeper, leaving her connected to herself in a way like no other.
In her early twenties Carrie has a car accident that left her with several spine injuries. She struggled with chronic pain for many years. The back pain elevated after a difficult first pregnancy, while in her early thirties. Increased chronic pain and a cycle of weight gain, pain and depression. It was 2010 when Carrie's injuries led her right foot to "drop" and ultimately a micro lumbar discectomy. Gratefully the surgery was a huge success, for at the time she could barely get out of bed or pick up her 10 month old baby. This new lease on life prompted Carrie back into Yoga, and eventually, after her second baby she started to teach Barre3 in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
The Covid-19 pandemic put Carrie face to face with herself, in ways she had never experienced previously. Like many of us, the long periods of time alone, facing doubts and fears was difficult mentally and physically. Her Yoga practice returned as free flow in her lanai, the Yoga kept her going. Yoga kept Carrie feeling good inside & out.
Now a registered Yoga teacher, Carrie has been teaching classes privately with her business, Ohm Yoga, since February of 2022. Ohm Yoga home studio, Carrie offers live and streaming classes.
She has been teaching Hot Yoga Fusion and Hot Vinyasa classes at her teacher's studio, Circusoul Yoga in Sarasota and will start the Flying Yoga teacher training program there this summer. In October Carrie joins Circusouloul Yoga's retreat in Thailand, to study at the Vedic Thai at the Vedic Thai Conservatory in Chiang Mei.
